Benefits of Collaborating with a Chiropractor

Most women when they find out they are expecting a tiny bundle of joy, make enormous strides in taking care of their health. They quickly begin to gather their birthing team including their Ob/Gyn, midwife, doula, chiropractor, and more. All of these individuals can work together to ensure mom and baby are safe and healthy through the pregnancy.

One big issue pregnant moms deal with is pain. Low back pain, sciatica, pubic pain, and more. What are a pregnant woman’s options for safe and effective pain relief?

More often than not, prescription medications and even over-the-counter solutions are not proven to be safe for the mom-to-be. This is where chiropractic comes in. Working with a chiropractor gives your patients a safe and effective way to deal with the aches and pains common in pregnancy.

Let’s explore some common concerns that your clients might voice to you but that you just don’t have the resources or time to help them work through.

My neck! My back! My joints! Everything aches. Chiropractors help patients alleviate pain safely. By looking at the biomechanics of the body, chiropractors can help moms-to-be get out of pain and back to preparing for their baby. Chiropractic care is safe from preconception through the first, second, third, and “fourth” trimester of pregnancy. Safe and gentle chiropractic care can help with:

  • Low back pain
  • Sciatica
  • Pubic symphysis pain
  • Headaches
  • Mid back pain
  • Carpal tunnel pain

The baby is breech!
The baby is transverse!
The baby is face down!

Chiropractors utilize a specific technique developed by Larry Webster, DC, founder of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA). This technique, also known as the Webster technique, allows chiropractors to establish balance in a pregnant woman’s pelvis.

How does the Webster technique work?
It works by reducing stress on the uterus and supporting ligaments. The uterus is thus opened up to its optimal size, giving the baby much more room to move about and to get into the best position for birth. This technique may help the baby move into a better birthing position.

A difficult labor scares me!

Is there anything I can I do to help it go more smoothly? Optimal baby positioning at the time of birth reduces the potential for dystocia, or difficult labor, and therefore results in an easier and safer delivery for both mom and baby.

The nervous system controls everything in the body, including the uterus and other reproductive organs. By utilizing chiropractic care, I can look at the spine of the mom-to-be and make sure that the nervous system is functioning optimally.

A pain-free pregnancy is a beautiful pregnancy
